Their Glory Days

Friday I sat down to talk with some great men. Football legends. Gene Cronin '50, Morrison England '77 and Geoffrey Burroughs '54. These gentlemen once played on the McClatchey High School Football Team. England and Morrison went on to play ball for U.O.P. Cronin went on to the NFL. They each were participants in a game known as the Turkey Day Game. A game played against their rival team, Sacramento High School. In 1947, to a record 26 thousand in attendance at the Hughes Stadium. The game is no longer played on Thanksgiving Day, this year it will be played on Veterans Day (November 10th, 2006). The game is now called the Battle of the Bell but many still remember it as the turkey day game. www.turkeydaygame.com

Join LiveWire on November 1st at 5pm on channel 17. When Ray Tatar interviews, four football greats. Ralph DeLoach '77, Coach Doug Crosby, NFL, Gene Cronin, NFL and Morrison England '77. These guys have great stories to tell about careers and traditions that started right here in Sacramento not so many years ago.
